DAY 1: ISTANBUL • KAYSERI > CAPPADOCIA
Your private guide will be waiting for you for an early morning transfer to the airport. Following the flight to Kayseri city, you will travel to the Cappadocia region by car. You will explore the Derinkuyu Underground City. It is documented that the first carving of this underground city goes a far as the time of the Hittites (2000 BC).
The city was used, during the Early Christian epoque, as a refuge from the wrath of Romans. You will then visit the Ihlara Valley, which was formed by volcanic eruptions; and where the scenery is fascinating. You will also visit the rock chapels with amazing frescoes; and have lunch in a small village located the the center of the valley.
On your way back to the hotel, you will visit the Ağzikarahan Caravansarai, which was a pit stop for the travelers of the Silk Road and their camels, as well as a local wine factory, to taste the delicious Cappadocia wines. You will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel. (Optional tours to a simple wine house or to a local folkloric performance after dinner are available).
DAY 2: CAPPADOCIA • IZMIR
Your day of wonders will begin early, even before breakfast. You will be picked up from the hotel to watch the sun rise over this magnificent land, from a hot air balloon. You will have a unique, fairy tale-like experience, dipping down to pick fresh from the tree tops, or soaring above the landscape, picking out landmarks never before noticed.
You will then return to the hotel for breakfast. You will check out and leave the hotel, before continuing to explore Cappadocia;
You will climb up to the citadel of Uchisar, which was used as a watch tower.
You will see the Pigeon Valley with pigeon houses on slopes of the valleys.
You will enjoy the amazing panoramic view from Esentepe and Cevizlibag.
You will visit the Goreme Open Air Museum. The area is populated by chapels, with awe-inspiring paintings made by exiled Christians during the Roman era.
You will take a short walk to Zelve - Paşabag where you will find the most interesting rock formations, called "fairy chimneys"; as well as the first examples of a monk's chapel.
You will then visit Avanos, the pottery village, where tiles and plates are crafted, using the millennia-old Hittite technique.
After Avanos, you will be transferred to Kayseri Airport for the flight to Izmir. You will spend the night in Izmir. (Please note that the flight will be by Istanbul connection; as there are no scheduled direct flights to Izmir from Kayseri).
DAY 3: IZMIR> CESME
After the breakfast, you will travel to Cesme, a coastal town in western Turkey and a prized location of country houses and secondary residences especially for the well-off inhabitants of Izmir.
Cesme, in recent decades has become one of Turkey's most prominent centers of international tourism. The Cesme center and its surrounding towns, villages and countryside, as well as its very popular beaches have a lot to offer to the visitors.
You will spend the night at this beautiful spot.
DAY 4: ÇEŞME > EPHESUS > KUŞADASI
After breakfast, you will check out and leave the hotel, for a drive to the Selçuk area.
You will then visit the ancient city of Ephesus, the Roman capital of Asia Minor. Your tour will include the Odeon, the Marble Street, the Hadrian Temple, the Celcius Library and the Great Theatre.
You may opt for lunch in a local restaurant, before paying a pilgrimage visit to the House of Virgin Mary. This Christian and Muslim shrine is located in the vicinity of Ephesus; and it is believed by many that Virgin Mary was taken to this stone house by Saint John and lived there.
You will be driven to another nearby coastal town, Kusadasi, for dinner and overnight.
DAY 5: KUŞADASI > PAMUKKALE • ISTANBUL
On this day, you will visit a marvelous place.
Pamukkale, "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site that is created by hot springs and travertine, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. The ancient city of Hierapolis was built on top of the white "castle" which is nearly 9 thousand feet long and more than 500 feet wide. This amazing site can be seen even from miles away in a clear day.
You will visit the Cotton Castle itself (feel free to dip your feet in the small lakes along the way!), the ancient Hierapolis, the Necropolis, the Roman Baths and the Theatre. After an optional lunch, you will be driven Izmir Airport for the flight back to Istanbul, where you will be transferred to your hotel.
