TOUR 35: Santa was born far from The North Pole

A northern shore to the Mediterranean Sea, Antalya has been settled since pre-historic times; with evidence of human habitation dating back to the early Paleolithic age.

It has been an important city to all the dominant civilizations of Anatolia, and it holds today an amazing legacy of incredible historic treasures.

Antalya has more to offer, with its beautiful beaches and waterfalls. Recently, the city has shown major progress towards becoming a fresh, hot golfing spot; as many top-level courses have been designed and completed.

Demre, the birth place of Saint Nicholas The Wondermaker (Santa Claus) is also located in Antalya province. The eight-day tour of Antalya is an opportunity to live a vacation of lifetime, combining leisure and culture.


Upon your arrival to the Antalya International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel, located between Manavgat (the land of waterfalls) and Alanya town; for dinner and overnight stay.


This day will be an excursion to Alanya, a city that has been inhabited, since early ages. Your first visit will be to the Damlataş Cave, which is believed to have healing properties. Afterwards, you will take a walk down from Alanya Castle; watching the awesome panorama. You will then be transferred to your hotel for leisure, relaxing, dinner and overnight stay.


On this day, you will visit the antique city Aspendos. The city's history goes back to 1000 BC, and many historians link it the Greek sailors of the Argos. Though that it has later been a part of the Roman Empire, Aspendos always kept its Hellenistic heritage which can be seen in the design of the city's theater. With a capacity of 7.000 people, the theater is so well preserved that it is being used even today on a regular basis.

Afterwards you will enjoy an adventurous boat cruise on the Manavgat River to see the pelicans and the turtles play. This cruise will take you to the opening of Mediterranean Sea where you will enjoy a barbecue party. You can take a walk along Manavgat riverside, the perfect way to digest your lunch.

Then you'll be transferred to your hotel for the night. In the evening, there will a special excursion that feature belly dancers, as well as lively traditional Anatolian folk dances, in an old caravanserai.


Following your breakfast you will be transferred to Hierapolis (Pamukkale). On your way to Pamukkale you will visit the largest jewelry plant in Balkans, where raw gold is turned into delicately crafted jewellery. The Pamukkale roadtrip will give you the opportunity to know people and their unique traditions, and beautiful small cities, like Isparta, the town of roses.

In the afternoon you'll arrive at Pamukkale, a natural site that is created by hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. The ancient city of Hierapolis was built on top of the white "castle" which is nearly 9 thousand feet long and more than 500 feet wide. This amazing sight can be seen even from 15 miles away on a clear day. You will visit the Cotton Castle itself (feel free to dip your feet in the small lakes along the way!), the ancient Hierapolis, the Necropolis, the Roman Baths and the Theatre. Overnight and dinner on this day of the tour will be at a hotel in Pamukkale region.


On the journey back to Antalya, which will take you across the legendary Taurus Mountains, you will have a chance to see the lifestyle of Yörük, Turkish nomadic highlanders. You will also have a visit to one of the major production centers of famous Turkish carpets, woven traditionally by unmarried "Yörük" girls; and also a short break on a volcano lake will follow right after, and finally in the afternoon you'll reach Antalya for dinner and overnight.


This is a leisure day, as most of it will be for you to rest and enjoy the weather and you will also see the ancient city Perge (free light museum), which once where the trading and political center, includes an area of ruins with a stadium in it, a Hellenistic gate and an agora.


The seventh day of the tour will take you to the birth place of Santa Claus. The legend of Santa Claus is built around the life and miracles of an early Christian, Saint Nicholas. Saint Nicholas was named "The Wonder maker", for many miracles that were attributed to his intercession. He had a reputation for secret gift-giving, such as putting coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him, and thus became the model for Santa Claus. You will visit, the Myra ancient city (Demre today) and the church of Saint Nicholas, before returning to the hotel, for dinner and over night stay.


You will be transferred from the Hotel to Antalya Airport for your flight.
